   The husband of maria letizia ramolino, and father of napoléon i, as well as of Caroline, élisa, Jérôme, Joseph, louis, lucien, and pauline bonaparte, Carlo Bonaparte was born in Ajaccio, Corsica, where he was a lawyer. He fought along with pasquale paoli for Corsican independence (1768-69), then, after 1770, went over to the side of the French. He died before his son came to power in France.
